About Us |
The choir emphasizes both vocal training and music education as directors incorporate age and skill appropriate music and movement activities. Throughout the season, choristers develop vocally, rhythmically and tonally. Music reading, language growth, memory, auditory discrimination, small and large motor skill development through rhythmic movement, stage presence, as well as many other skills will be strengthened and fine-tuned throughout both semesters. We currently direct a younger choir, “Jubilate,” for students primarily in grade ranges ~ 2 - 4, as well as a choir consisting of our older, more experienced members primarily in grades ~ 5 - 12 — “Bel Canto.”
Through singing, listening, and musical analysis the children explore great music from many cultures and time periods. This exploration develops their abilities as practicing artists and teaches skills that they will use throughout life. Each semester encompasses weekly choir rehearsals and various performances throughout. The choir has performed at many community events including the Nutcracker, the Philharmonic Peppermint Pops and Candy Cane Express. Most recently performed with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra & Choir in "Turandot". Each year the choir hosts An Evening with the Evansville Children's Choir. The Evansville Children's Choir has participated in several local, national and international tour events over the years, including the Hoosier Hill Choral Festival, the Indianapolis Children’s Choir “Festival of the Americas”, the International Children’s Choral Festival in Canterbury, England and two performances at Carnegie Hall in New York. |
